ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER
DO WE HAVE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS?

This may be your first, but it is actually the second BCRC newsletter to be sent both electronically and by regular mail. It is hoped that we can eventually reduce the regular mailing costs by electronic distribution - and the use of our website.

If you haven't been to the website lately, take a look at it! If we don't have your address and you would like to get on our distribution, please send it (or any other name/address updates) to BCRC Web Master

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DOOR MAKES

Thanks to Frank Starkweather, Scott Hardy, the City of Bay City, and a HUD grant, significant improvements have been made to the boathouse. Two new overhead doors make it MUCH easier to get boats in and out. Other improvements include repair/replacement of rotted wood, and ceiling replacement in the locker rooms.

BOATHOUSE PAINTING PARTY

Saturday, June 28 - 9 am to 2pm. This is it. The boathouse is finally going to get the painting that it deserves. Bring your own brush and a dish to pass. Please come!

NOMINATIONS FOR THE BOARD

Don't forget to submit your nominations for the BCRC Board of Directors. The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 13.

From the editor: To submit an article for our next newsletter or for electronic posting or distribution, or if you have any suggestions regarding the newsletter, please Greg Dickson at gdickson@dow.com. Better yet - how would like to be on the committee?

BAY CITY ROWING CLUB UNISUITS
Have you always wanted a Club UniSuit! Now's your chance! We'll be placing an order for custom-made suits from Sew Sporty. The colors of the suits will match the new paint job on our oars (royal blue and yellow). The design is half yellow and half blue (diagonally) for the top, with the logo BCRC and two crossed oars on the front, and blue for the shorts. The suits are made of quick drying Lycra blend material. If you would like more information, check out their website at www.SewSporty.com..

If you are interested in ordering please contact Lora Brehm (e-mail: Lbrehm@dow.com or 989-839-2146) with the following information: Name, Phone number and e-mail address and size information. For Women - Bra size or Chest measurement, Woman's pant size or hip measurement, Height and Weight, and any special comments (e.g. long waisted, short waisted, large thighs, small shoulders, etc.). For Men - Top size or chest measurement, waist measurement, Height and Weight, and any special comments (e.g. long waisted, skinny legs, big shoulders, etc.).

The deadline for the 1st order is June 29th. The cost of a UniSuit is $50.00. Please send a check for $50.00 to:
Lora Brehm

Midland, MI 48642-3406
If there is enough interest another order will be placed at a later date, so if you miss the deadline don't despair still send in your information.

ANOTHER "LEARN TO ROW DAY" SUCCESS

We had another great turnout at our 3rd Learn to Row day, held on Saturday, June 7. Many club members, and about 25 - 30 prospective rowers, including a large contingent of adaptive rowers, all enjoyed the sessions.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL CREW
The commitment of the Bay City Central High School Crew and parents, coaches, volunteers and supporters is enormous. Look at these facts: high school rowing requires seven months a year, 12-15 hours a week, 30 hours of practice over spring break, and includes 6 weekends for regattas, 3 Saturdays for erg races.

The cost is equally challenging. This past year it cost $336 per student to participate (not including money paid by the parent). It cost $6,000 to run the complete 2002 -03 program for 12 rowers, and the budget from BCCHS Athletics for 2004-04 is $0! Somehow, between training and racing, the Crew managed to raise $6,600 through fourteen fundraisers, including cookie walks, pop can collections, Arby's sales, Younker's sales and the River of Lights.
SHORT STROKES
  • Frank Starkweather, Kathy Cozad, and Julie Jordan will not be seeking reelection to the Board. Thanks for all of their time and effort, particularly Frank, who returned to serve (again) as President for the last couple of years.

  • The club just ordered a set of quad riggers for the Kaschper 4+. This should be great fun and an excellent training aid for scullers.

  • If you have an idea for a new Club logo, please submit it to Scott Hardy by Sunday, July 13th.

  • Don't miss the recognition of our charitable contributors on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:30 pm. Hors D'oeuvres will be provided. We will also be rededicating the "Sue - Peter Franz".

  • Anyone having trouble with his or her sliding seat installation should contact 12-year veteran, Brenda McCauley for technical assistance.

SWEEP ROWING
Drop in sweep rowing every Wednesday at 6 p.m. And, if you are interested in getting more sweep rowing and perhaps attending some regattas on July 12 (Grand Rapids) and July 26 (Ann Arbor), and in the fall, please sign up on the fluorescent yellow poster in the boat house located just inside the door. If you're not sure about racing, still sign up just don't fill in the boxes to indicate when you want to race. All abilities are welcome!
