The Bay City Central Crew The Central High School rowing CREW provides an exciting opportunity for our young people to experience one of America's fastest growing high school sports.

Each year some 20 to 30 young men and women participate in this year-round sport. The crew holds regular winter workouts in the school swimming pool and at the Bay Area Family "Y". The crew travels to Wyandotte, Michigan at least once each winter for indoor tank practice. In mid-April the ice is usually off the Saginaw River and the crew helps open the BCRC boathouse. With rising temperatures the crew takes to the water.

The competition season actually kicks off during the winter with indoor "erg" races. Crews from around the state gather to race on high tech rowing machines. It's an exciting, and very loud, event! The first regatta on the water is usually in April. Sometimes the first real race of the season is the first time the crew is in the water for the year.

This "Crew Report" web site was started in 1998 by MMCC's Stephen Kent, who was a crew parent at the time. Mr. Kent's daughter's are now off at college but he continues to be active in the BCRC as a board member. The site will continue to archive those early crew reports and we'll update it with new information as often as possible.
