Along the far shore are huge mountains of stone for many construction and road building purposes. These stones are regularly delivered by Great Lakes freighters then trucked away from the piling grounds.
Bay City is a center for several environmental programs. The research vessel Lake Guardian makes it's home port in Bay City and the city is home to the EPA's National Environmental Supercomputing Center.
The stone dock land in the picture is currently being redeveloped and used for additional parks and condominiums.
