Even for experienced rowers, making the transition from sweep rowing (handling one oar) to sculling (handling two oars) can be intimidating and require additional training and practice. Once you learn, however, sculling can be extremely rewarding. Some rowers develop a strong preference for sculling technique and others just like to be able to take a single shell out by themselves every now and then.
New for 2017, BCRC will be offering private lessons for individuals interested in learning to scull, whether in a single by themselves, or with others in a double or a quad. This training will speed up the process of learning to scull and ensure that you have a solid foundation for the correct technique.
Rowing experience is not required to register for private sculling lessons. If you are new to the sport and would like private instruction, or are more interested in sculling, then you are welcome to sign up for lessons. New rowers can also consider our Learn to Row program, which teaches sweep rowing in a team boat. Both are excellent options for learning the sport of rowing.
Meet The Coach
Beth is a certified US Rowing Level 2 coach. She enjoys teaching rowers – both beginners and experienced. Technique and fitness are the cornerstones of her coaching and she uses both to maximize a rower’s potential and efficiency on the water. “A dedication to fitness and technique can make anyone a good rower.” Beth is originally from Montana but has lived in many states and finally settled in Florida. She is looking forward to coaching at BCRC and enjoying the summer in Michigan with her sons, 15 and 13 (who are both rowers), and her dog Teddy.
